Stakeholders on Wednesday called for the speedy passage of the Mineral Resources Development Agency Bill to enhance economic activities and increase Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of Ekiti state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the call was made at the Public Hearing on the bill held at the Ekiti state House of Assembly complex in Ado-Ekiti.
NAN also reports that the executive bill, Ekiti State Mineral Resources Development Agency Bill, 2015, is seeking the establishment of an overseer Agency.
This agency would be saddled with the responsibility of obtaining data on the inherent rocks and mineral resources potential of the state.
It further sought appropriate measures and programmes towards the judicious exploitation and utilisation of the mineral resources in the state.
The Chairmen of the two committees, Messrs Dele Fajemilehin (Commerce), and Olaposi Omodara (Environment), promised to do justice to the observations of the participants at the public hearing.
NAN recalls that the bill successfully passed through the second reading at plenary on Monday, June 29.
It was however committed to the joint Committees on Trade and Commerce and Committee on Environment for further action.
The Speaker, Ekiti State House of Assembly, Mr Kola Oluwawole, directed the committees to handle all necessary actions on the bill within the shortest period. (NAN)
