ADC National Chairman Okey Nwosu
By JOHN NDU
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced today, Saturday, July 3, 2021 as the day for it to kick-start the voters’ registration sensitization campaign in line with the ongoing continuous voters registration exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The party urged all citizens to show discipline and responsibility by turning out to register en masse. They maintain that to check the political excesses in Nigeria requires PVC revolution.
The exercise is ahead of the November 6, 2021, governorship election in Anambra State.
Speaking during the inaugural meeting of the ADC Youth Council, Anambra State chapter, held in Awka, yesterday, ADC’s Deputy National Chairman, Strategy, Innovation and Inclusion, Dr Chike Okogwu, said: “The sensitization is in line with the directives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in ensuring full participation in the election”.
Dr Okogwu noted that the sensitization would be simultaneously done across the state, and the federation even though Anambra is meant to kick off first. Adamawa, Kano, Port Harcourt, Lagos and FCT will follow.
He added that the essence is to promote voter education, especially in villages where there is political apathy.
The Deputy National Chairman, regretted that some youth and women are apolitical, and shun voting during election, noted that it is only through voting that the society can have true democracy.
Dr Okogwu urged all youths, persons with disability and women to come out for the exercise as to exercise their franchise in upcoming elections.
On his part, the National Chairman of ADC, Chief Okey Nwosu, charged the Youths to own and champion the campaign exercise, as the future belongs to them. “To do so will leverage the values of inclusion and gender, Youths and PWD mainstreaming maximally for good governance.” He maintained that “as a party, ADC must continue to champion citizens’ right to vote in Nigeria.”
