The 8th Oyo State House of Assembly on Tuesday at plenary in Ibadan passed its first bill tagged ‘Revenue Administration Bill 2015’.
The House passed the bill after a motion moved by Saheed Badmus (APC-Akinyele II) and seconded by Gbenga Oyekola (LP-Atiba).
The two members had observed that the bill came at the right time when most states were trying to grapple with financial crisis.
Oyekola, however, appealed to the State Government not to retrench workers in the bid to cut the cost of governance.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that four other bills had scaled through second reading on Friday.
The bills were aimed at paving the way for the State Government to cut the cost of governance through the downsising of ministries from 23 to 13.
They were those for the Establishment of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, 2015 and Ministry of Trade, Industry, Investment and Cooperatives Bill 2015.
Others are Ministry of Finance and Economic Development Bill 2015, Ministry of Environment, Physical Planning and Urban Development Bill 2015 and Oyo State Laws Repeal Bill 2015.
NAN also reports that five ad-hoc committees made up of six members each were set up on the proposed bills before the House.
The Speaker, Michael Adeyemo, directed the committees to submit their reports on Friday and adjourned till Wednesday. (NAN)
