By PAMELA EBOH, Awka
Former Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Technical Matters, Nze Akachukwu Nwankpo, was on Wednesday elected the standard bearer of the African Democratic Party (ADC) for the November 6, 2021 Anambra State governorship election.
Nwankpo, who was the lone candidate during the party primary held at the Dora Akunyili Women Development Center, was elected through voice vote.
Declaring Nwankpo as ADC’s candidate, the Chairman of ADC Governorship Electoral Committee, Chief Anayo Arinze, said a total of 7,051 eligible delegates of the party in attendance gave him overwhelming ‘yes’ vote.
In his acceptance speech, Nwankpo thanked the delegates for the opportunity given him to fly the party’s flag, saying that he was in the race to win.
He gave assurance that he would run an open-door policy.
Nwankpo said: “My promise is that when I win, security of lives and property would be stepped up. My administration would ensure that no soul in Anambra State would be lost again to the hoodlums. No criminal will enter this state under my watch, kill and get away with it. I will pursue you by air, sea or land till you are apprehended and dealt with.
“We will revitalise Agriculture and other sectors of the economy. I assure you that in the coming days we will move to the street to return sanity. We are going to build on it.
“I was disqualified in APGA because some people felt I don’t have money, no .contacts, hence my name cannot appear on the ballot paper but here we are, it will not only appear on the ballot paper, ADC would win.”
Also speaking, the Chairman, ADC Board of Trustees, Senator Patricia Akwashiki, urged Anambra State electorate to rally round their party candidate, noting that his administration would give voice to all including the less privileged.
Earlier in his speech, the National Chairman of ADC, Chief Ralph Okey Nwosu, said that success of ADC in the November 6 poll would mark an end to hooliganism of the state.
According to him, hooliganism has etched deep into the system of government in Anambra and requires urgent intervention.
