The Kano State Hisbah Board said it arrested 52 youths for taking alcohol at Roxy Amusement Park in Kano metropolis.
The Public Relations Officer of the board, Malam Mohammed, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Tuesday that the culprits were apprehended in the night on Sunday.
He said that the culprits were 36 young men and 16 women, saying that they were arrested during a special patrol by the officials of the board following a tip-off.
Mohammed said that the board will sustain its raids on all suspected ‘dark spots,’ especially during the sacred month of Ramadan.
According to him, the arrest is to discourage youths from engaging in social vices, so that they can live their lives in conformity with the Islamic laws.
He further advised parents to caution their children against patronising such places during this holy period and at other times.
The Hisbah spokesman warned that anyone caught during such raids will be prosecuted in accordance with the shari’a.
‘’If we arrest violators of the law, the board has the mandate to charge them to court,’’ Mohammed said.
He also advised youths to endeavour to be of good conduct at all times, especially in this Holy Month, so as to earn the blessings of the Almighty Allah. (NAN)
