An Islamic Group, Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), has condemned the recent killing of innocent citizens in North-east Nigeria at various places of worship by the Boko Haram sect.
The group led by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, described the terrorists’ increasing attacks in Maiduguri, Borno State, Damaturu in Yobe State and Jos in Plateau State as ungodly and un-Islamic.
The group’s statement was conveyed by the Secretary General of the JNI, Dr Khalid Abubakar, in a statement issued on Monday.
They commended the Federal Government’s efforts in curbing the insurgency, in relation to its prompt interventions.
The group also urged the Federal Government to ensure thorough forensic findings and investigations on the increasing serial attacks on innocent citizens.
Describing the repeated bloody attacks as evil and ridiculous, especially as they are happening during the month of Ramadan, the JNI dissociated the Muslim community from the activities of the militant group, emphasising that killing of innocent people had no basis in Islam.
“The barbaric attacks are utterly condemnable in the strongest terms. The sad aspect of the attacks is that they are perpetrated in the revered month of Ramadan. It is hardly believable that such dastardly acts could occur now,” the group stressed.
They further queried why the security operatives in Maiduguri failed to repel or arrest the attackers despite the several distress calls put across to the appropriate authorities in the city.
Nevertheless, the JNI called on military authorities in the affected areas to fish out perpetrators of the bloody attacks and make them face the full wrath of the law. (Channels TV).
