SSANU calls on Buhari to intervene on staff schools issue to avoid crisis

Following the proposed plan by the National Universities Commission and the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission to stop the funding of Federal Universities Staff Schools, the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) in the Southeast zone has maintained that the plan is repugnant and offensive to the establishment of the staff schools.

They also maintained the mandate of educational institutions in Nigeria and that such directive would not only run in contrary to the purpose of the creation of universities but would also undermine the prevailing industrial peace and stability existing in the Nigerian universities.

Reading out a communique after a Southeast zonal meeting of National Executive Council of the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria held in Owerri, the Imo State capital, Southeast Nigeria, the National Vice President of SSANU Southeast, Comrade Leku Ador said the association is of the opinion that the principles of equity, fairness and justice demand that it would not be out of place if children of the university workers are allowed the same privilege of attending schools funded by the federal government treasury as children of military, police and even other citizens whose children attend public schools.

He added that any attempt to remove the Staff of University Staff Primary Schools from the nominal pay rolls of universities shall definitely call for unrest in the university system and throw the country into another round of labour crisis.

He appealed to sister unions within the university system and all well meaning Nigerians to support them in the struggle against the coming injustice and prevail on the Buhari-led administration to ignore the antics of those who are bent on negatively changing the status of the University Staff Schools.
