Barely 24 hours after the disqualification of former President Goodluck Jonathan’s aide, Nze Akachukwu Nwankpo, and some other governorship aspirants, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has sacked the party’s National Chairman, Chief Victor Oye. The party also suspended some of its prominent members, including Hon Chinedu Obidigwe and Edozie Njoku.
The NWC named Chief Jude Okeke as Oye’s replacement.
While annulling the earlier governorship screening exercise, the party also announced the extension of the sale of its forms for the November 6, 2021 gubernatorial election in Anambra State.
In his reaction, Oye denied being sacked by the party. “It is what we see in every primary election, so no shaking,” he said.
“If this were in the civilized country, they will be arrested and jailed. There is a procedure and you have to give INEC a notice to be able to convene a National working committee. It is the chairman National Electoral Committee that convenes NWC.
“I don’t know them. This people do not exist and I’m surprised that people are giving it publicity. What they did is media sack. Those people do not exist and they should be dealt with,” Oye added.
The cancelled screening exercise had former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, and three others as the only ones cleared to contest the party’s primary election slated for July 23.
