Top flight comedian and actor, Bright Okpocha, better known by his stage name Basketmouth, has predicted that the President Buhari-led federal government is planning a gradual ban of all social media Apps, so as to suppress freedom of expression by the citizenry.

The 42 years old Sociology and Anthropology graduate from the University of Benin expressed his thoughts on his Instagram page via a video on Thursday.

The Lagos-born entertainer from Abia State started his conversation sarcastically, saying:

“Our leaders are the most straightforward in the world. Whatever they are about to do, they will give us a hint, but we don’t always pay attention.

“Remember when one of them came out to say that our fuel was the cheapest in the world? That time, they had already decided to increase fuel pump price. They just said that for it to register in your mind what they had already decided to do with fuel price. So that when it finally happened, you will say ‘actually our fuel is the cheapest in the world’. Yes, they always drop a hint.”

He also sighted an instance when another government official said China had banned social media and the govt had put in place an internal App for use by the Chinese.

“Not long after, one of them said he had his own social media App, then from nowhere, this ban on Twitter just came. Now they are saying, they banned Twitter because it’s responsible for breaking fake news,” he said.

The comedian who recently hosted Billionaire Femi Otedola in his home said the oppression by government is not going to end with Twitter ban.

“But I tell you it’s not going to end with Twitter. Next you’ll hear that it is Instagram IPOB uses to plan their meetings, they will ban Instagram. They just want to ban all the Apps. Very soon they will find an excuse to ban Facebook, Email, everything! So that we won’t be able to communicate any longer.

“After all that, they’ll get to newsletters. Just that NIPOST no dey work.”

He then appealed: “Can someone in Ghana help me tweet this video? You know we can’t tweet in Nigeria anymore. They’ve BANDIT.”

He tagged the post #TheVoisesInMyHead
