Arsenal are out of this year’s European Champions League but they and their legion of fans have every reason to hold their heads high. On a night when few people gave them any chance of escaping defeat in Munich, the Gunners showed incredible strength and upturned a two-goal deficit from the first leg at the Emirates. In the end, they won 2-0 but missed out from qualifying for the quarter-finals due to away goal rule, having lost 1-3 at home two weeks ago.
The visitors were businesslike from the blast of the whistle and were already a goal up within three minutes. A sideways pass from Cazorla had found Rosicky, who located Walcott on the overlap, who, in turn, lays a perfect pass for Giroud to boot home from close range.
A miracle appeared to be in the offing in the 85th minute when Koscielny headed home from the corner but the Germans held on despite last-minute fireworks from the Englishmen..
With Arsenal’s ouster, there’s no Premiership side in contention for the trophy currently held by Chelsea.
