Obi assures of increased immunisation of Anambra children

Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State has assured that his administration will continue to increase its immunisation coverage so as to protect the health of the children of the state.He spoke while flagging offthe second 2013 Immunization Day Plus at Primary Health Centre, Nkwelle Umunachi, Dunukofia Local Government Area.

The governor described immunisation as vital in the healthcare delivery system of the state to protect children from childhood killer diseases. He explained that his administration is rebuilding all hospital and health facilities across the state to bring quality health delivery nearer to the people.

Speaking at the occasion, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Lawrence Ikeakor, noted that the state scored very high in the last immunisation exercise and is determined to sustain the tempo. Heenjoined mothers to bring out their children for immunisation as it is absolutely free of charge and safe.The commissioner thanked the Governor for prompt release of fund that ensured the success of the programme.

Also speaking, the Chairman, MDGs Implementation Committee and Commissioner for Economic Planning, Professor Chinyere Okunna, noted that the state has made commendable achievement in the Health Sector and is working hard in all sectors.

She stressed the need for people of the state to elect a credible successor who can maintain the tempo of development.

In his speech, a UNICEF Consultant, Mr. Difen Gbofegin, thanked Governor Obi for the support given to the programme and assured that enough vaccine for the exercise.

In his remarks, the Transition Committee Chairman, Dunukofia Local Government Area, Mr. Onochie Okagbue, thanked the governor for using the area to flag-off the programme and urged parents to take advantage of the opportunity.

Two nursing mothers who spoke to journalists, Mrs. Blessing Nnawuba and Ngozi Onyika, expressed gratitude to the Governor for giventhem opportunity to benefit from the programme.
