Anambra APGA guber frontrunner, Prof Soludo
By PAMELA EBOH, Awka
Governorship aspirants of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) at the weekend kicked against the party picking former Central Bank Governor, Prof Charles Soludo, as the sole candidate of the party for the November 6 governorship election without conducting a primary.
The resolution was reached by the aspirants on the occasion of the one year anniversary of a socio-political organisation, ‘Afa Igbo Bu Ofu’ held at the Prof Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre Awka.
Although Prof. Soludo, APGA State Chairman Sir Nobert Obi, and some other frontline government functionaries were absent at the event where attendees adorned APGA regalia, it was obvious that Soludo was the reason for the gathering.
A member of organization who spoke on condition anonymity said the body language of the state government leaned towards the ex-CBN Governor.
He however observed that irrespective of the grand design to pull him down within the APGA fold, Soludo would record a landslide victory for APGA if given the ticket because of his pedigree and antecedents.
While speaking with journalists at the event, other aspirants maintained that the November 6th governorship election is a must win for APGA in order for the party to guarantee the consolidation and continuation of good governance in the state as engendered by Governor Willie Obiano.
They however insisted that the party’s constitution and electoral guidelines which made provisions for primary election to be conducted must be strictly adhered to.
According to them, that is the only way disintegration and bulkanisation of the party can be avoided.
