Fika LGC Chairman, Halima Joda
Halima Joda has emerged as the first female local government chairman in Yobe State 30 years after the state was created.
Joda became the first woman to occupy the seat after her election during the local government council election held on Saturday, February 27, 2021 conducted by the state government.
Since Yobe state was created on August 27, 1991, no female was either appointed or elected as local government chairman until during the Mai Mala Buni -led administration.
It is also under Buni’s administration that two women were appointed as members of the State Executive Council.
Although many past leaders had pledged to carry along the women folk none of the pledges was kept until Joda’s election as chairman of Fika Local Government Council on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC).
Said to be a seasoned politician Halima Joda contested keenly and won the Fika LG chairmanship.
Halima Joda while receiving the Certificate of Return from the Executive Chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission says she will run an inclusive government regardless of gender difference.
The State Independent Electoral Commission had earlier announced that all the Chairmanship and the Councillorship elections in the state were won by the APC.
