The Akwa Ibom State Head of Civil Service, Mrs. Cecilia Udoessien, on Friday said workers in the state civil service had offered themselves “selflessly over the years to extend the frontiers of the progress and development of our beloved state.”

Delivering her solidarity message at the Uyo Sports Stadium to mark the 2015 May Day celebration, she noted, “A day like this gives us the opportunity to critically appraise our contributions as workers to state and national development.

“For us in Akwa Ibom State, we have sincerely been willing partners in the uncommon transformation efforts of the present state government, and this fact has over time been openly acknowledged and appreciated by our benevolent workers’ friendly governor, Chief Godswill Obot Akpabio (CON).”

She appreciated God thus: “I return all glory and honour to God Almighty for His sustaining grace that has seen us all through to this day to be part of this auspicious event.”

In his congratulatory message to the state workers, the Special Adviser, Bureau of Labour, Productivity and Public Service Matters, Hon. Godwin Udom stated, “We share with the joy of this auspicious occasion and also express our profound gratitude to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Chief (Dr) Godswill O. Akpabio (CON) for his untiring efforts in partnering with Labour for the uncommon transformation of our great state.”

The Special Adviser wished the workers “a joyous celebration and a day filled with harmony, peace and happiness for the entire workers of Akwa Ibom State.”

News Express reports that the theme of the 2015 May Day celebration was, “The Working Class, Democratic Consolidation and Economic Revival: Charting the Way to National Re-Birth”, and was marked with fanfare, traditional dances, brass band displays and colourful march pasts by different trade unions in the state.
