Goldie goes in a blaze of glory

It was a rain of tears as family, friends and well wishers gathered today in Lagos, South-West Nigeria, to bid a final goodbye to vibrant diva, Goldie (real name Susan Oluwabimpe Harvey).

It was the moment of reality as the pop star who died penultimate Thursday night, February 14, was laid to rest at the Ikoyi Vault & Garden, Lagos.

Wailings and sighs of sorrow rent the air as the eccentric performer who died suddenly at 31 was lowered into the grave in the presence of a galaxy of celebrities drawn from different sectors, including music, Nollywood and comedy.

News Express recalls that Goldie died at Reddington Hospital, Victoria Island, Lagos, a few hours after she arrived from Los Angeles, USA, where she attended this year’s Grammy Awards. She was said to have been rushed to Reddington Hospital by close friend Denrele Edun from her Park View residence after she complained of headache.

Goldie, who hailed from Ekiti State, attended Green Springs Montessori Primary School and St. John’s College, Palmgrove – both in Lagos – before moving on to the University of Sunderland where she studied Business Management.

She joined Kennis Music in 2010 and made her debut with the album Gold. Some of her hit songs include You Know It, Jawo Jawo and DTMB (Don’t Touch My Body).

A talented singer and performer, Goldie received 10 awards, among them Exquisite Lady of the Year, Best Female Artiste Award and City People Best Female Artiste of the Year.
