NGO tackles crime, drug abuse among youths, praises Akunyili

A non-governmental organisation, Nobles International, has set out on an aggressive campaign across Benin City to reorient youths on better living.

Like the society at large, the organisation is worried about the high crime rate prevalent amongst young men and women in Nigeria, and it is currently embarking on workshops and seminars in secondary schools in the Edo State capital aimed warning the youths on the consequences of wrong life choices, as well as offering them alternative paths to having a successful life.
In an interview with News Express after an event organised at Holy Mary College in Benin City, Ernest Igiehon, a principal consultant of the foundation, lamented that “many young men want to go to school today simply to become members of secret cults.”
He said his organisation’s long-term goals are to provide training for youths on practical working skills, as well as to aid the socially-challenged with materials for starting a new life as well as other rehabilitation services.
Igiehon also praised the former Director General of NAFDAC, Prof. Dora Akunyili, for what he described as her aggressive and courageous efforts to help rid the Nigerian society of the problem of drug abuse. He said: “Akunyili’s tenure was too hot for drug abusers because she was ready to go the extra mile in order to tackle the problem of fake drugs in the country. Wish she was still leading such efforts.”
Nobles Foundation International has branches in several countries of the world.
