Anambra State Governor Peter Obi has re-assured that money with which to undertake infrastructural projects is not the problem as his government, through savings, prudent management of resources, and support from development partners, has enough money for all ongoing projects in the state as well as those that would be started in no distant time.

Obi made the declaration yesterday while distributing cheques totally N100 million to bishops and pastors in charge in various missionary hospitals and institutions being built by the state government.

He explained that his administration’s support for missionary schools and hospitals is informed by the fact that those institutions render quality services to people of the state at subsidised rates. Besides, he said, since the government started executing projects directly through the beneficiaries; the culture of endless variations has stopped. “I am even willing to deepen my collaboration with the church and all organisations of goodwill,” Obi said.

The governor charged the bishops and pastors in charge of the over 25 buildings for missionary hospitals and institutions his administration is erecting to double their efforts towards the completion of the various projects.  He gave the same charge to contractors handling different jobs in the state, ranging from roads to water projects.

Obi had undertaken a routine visit to some of the hospitals, among them St. Joseph Hospital, Adazi-Nnukwu; Iyienu Hospital, Ogidi; School of Medical Laboratory of Immaculate Heart of Mary Sisters, Umuoji; Old People’s Home, Nkpor, Girls’ High School, Agulu, among others, were government is  building various structures.

Speaking while receiving the cheque for support for Old People’s Home, the Superior General of Sisters of Immaculate Heart of Mary, Mother Mary Claude Oguh, said that in Obi, Anambra State was witnessing a governor and a leader who led by example of personal rectitude, fear of God and the zeal to build a better society for posterity. She assured him that the money given to them will be judiciously used.

At St. Joseph Hospital and Girls’ High School, Agulu, Bishop Paulinus Ezeokafor, said that Obi remained the best governor Anambra has had since the creation of the state. “Whenever I say this, some people are not happy, but we cannot shy away from proclaiming obvious truth because some people prefer propaganda and falsehood,” the bishop said. He prayed to God to give the state another governor better than or at least as good as Governor Obi.
