Revealed: How Davido and Ruggedman influenced FSARS ban

Davido and Ruggedman

It is no longer news that some days back, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, banned operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) from undertaking some activities which made them notorious in the eyes of Nigerian.

What probably is not in public domain is the role played by two outstanding entertainers to influence the widely hailed decision of the police boss.

Maggie’s Blogreports that David Adedeji Adeleke popularly known as Davido, and Michael Ugochukwu Stephens, the rap star you know as Ruggedman a.k.a Ruggedy Baba, were two artistes who literally arm-twisted the IGP to ban the FSARS.

Long before now, Ruggedman had been campaigning vigorously for total ban of the notorious police department.

What perhaps shook the IGP to take immediate action were the two different outcry by the two renowned musicians as expressed on the social media few hours to the ban.

Davido wrote: “If we all come together as brothers and sisters and also as citizens of this country, we can end this nonsense!”, referring to the many extra judicial killings by SARS.

On his own part, Ruggedman said: “Stop selective blaming, face the right people and hold them accountable. You are part of the problem if you pretend like you do not know who to hold accountable. You are part of the problem if you wait till it affects you before you join the fight. There is a big difference between reality shows and ‘reality’. God bless you for the one you choose to support like your life depends on it.”

And pronto, the IGP picked up the axe!
