Former Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Gen. Edet Akpan (rtd.), who was arrested last Saturday during the Governorship and State House of Assembly elections in Akwa Ibom, for allegedly involving in election violence, thuggery and other malpractices, is currently facing police interrogations.
Akpan, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was nabbed for personally engaging in multiple acts of violence and other electoral malpractices in his Nsit Atai local government area on behalf of his party.
He was said to have used his position as a retired army general to organise and instigate the hired hoodlums and the electoral officers in the area and masterminded election banditry.
The armed hoodlums and the electoral officers were said to have also been arrested, alongside Gen. Akpan.
A PDP chieftain in the state, had alleged in a television interview on Monday that the retired army general, was caught red-handedly by the security operatives, while stuffing stolen ballot papers into snatched ballot boxes in his private residence at Nsit Atai, to favour an opposition party.
