I wish Governor Obi could have a third term —Bishop

Were it to be within his powers, the Chairman of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Anambra State Chapter, Bishop David Eberechukwu, would have tinkered with Nigeria’s Constitution to ensure that the state governor, Mr. Peter Obi, gets a third term. The constitution puts a ceiling a two terms of four years each and Obi is in the last year of his second term.

Eulogising Obi yesterday, Bishop Eberechukwu said if it were within his powers he would proposed and personally mobilised for him to go for a third term. He noted that the people of Anambra State do not want Obi to go because he has brought a positively different touch to Anambra since the state was created.

The bishop poured out his heart while receiving a brand new ambulance donated to Jesus the Physician Hospital, Amawbia, the first hospital jointly built by the Pentecostal in Nigeria. He commended Governor Obi for behaving like a true Christian in governance, noting that with him, the people now realise that those in government can keep their promises to the people.

In his response, Obi said that his administration would sustain intervention in mission health facilities to further expand the scope of healthcare delivery to the people

In another development, the governor yesterday presented an initial cheque of N10 million to the Guardian Angel Nursery and Primary School, Abatete, for the rebuilding of the two-storey building razed by fire earlier this month. Governor Obi, accompanied by some top government officials, presented the cheque during a visit to the school. He said the gesture was in fulfillment of his promise during his previous visit to assess the level of destruction wrecked by the inferno. The governor assured that his administration would continue to support the school to complete the structure and restated the determination of his administration to continue to assist schools irrespective of ownership status. He appealed to privileged individuals and groups to contribute in actualising the project. He thanked the school management for its relentless efforts and hard work in assisting the government to realize the vision on education.

Responding, the Headmistress of the school, Reverend Sister Maria Goretti Ngwuagu, expressed gratitude to Governor Obi for his kind gesture. She noted that his prompt intervention has brought a lot of relief to the school, adding that the governor has remained responsive to the needs and yearnings of the people. She assured that they would continue to support his administration with prayers.

Also speaking, Reverend Father Ignatius Okeke of Most Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church, Abatete said Governor Obi’s intervention had consoled them. He commended the high level of success recorded in government partnership with the church in promoting education and health sectors as well as other sectors of the economy.
