Late Nollywood giant Amaka Igwe
Versatile actor Ramsey Tokunbo Nouah Jr. is out with a project aimed at immortalising the late renowned movie producer, director and scriptwriter, Amaka Igwe.
Just as he recently did with Living in Bondage, the first movie which brought about the industry now called Nollywood, the 50 years old movie star is doing a reshoot of Rattle Snake and a book on same.
According to the light-skinned Mass Communication graduate from the University of Lagos who was born in Lagos to an Israeli father and a Yoruba mother who hails from Owo, Ondo State, the book is titled “Armadas” while the movie is “Rattle Snake: The Ahanna Story”.
“Rattle Snake” is a 1994 Nollywood classic which tells the story of Ahanna Okolo, a young boy who is drawn into a web of organised crime, gang rivalry, passion when unforeseen circumstances change the course of his otherwise happy childhood.
The movie, which was directed by Amaka Igwe, features Francis Duru, Nkem Owoh, Anne Njemanze, Ebele Uzochukwu, Bob Manuel, Okey Igwe, Julius Agwu and others.
The rehash version of the movie will soon hit the cinemas nationwide.
It is a Ramsey Noah film, from Playnetwork Studios, this time featuring Gloria Anozie-Young, Chinyere Winifred, Ramsey Noah and others.
Amaka Igwe was a Nigerian filmmaker and broadcasting executive.
She was the owner of Top Radio 90.9 Lagos and Amaka Igwe Studios. She was recognised as one of the second generation filmmakers who helped begin the video film era of Nigerian cinema now popularly called Nollywood.
She remained a prominent figure in the industry until her death in April 2014 at age 51 resulting from Asthma attack.
Amaka Igwe was writer and producer of award-winning TV soap “Checkmate” and its offshoot “Fuji House of Commotion”.
Her Nollywood projects include “Rattle Snake” and “Violated”.
