Mr. Festus Okoye, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) national commissioner has denied the allegations that some commissioners were lobbying for reappointment.

Besides, he also cleared the air on why the Z-Pad technology measure introduced during Nasarawa central state constituency election would not be used for verification and identification purposes in Edo and Ondo states gubernatorial elections.

In his address at a workshop organized by the commission for journalists in Akure, the Ondo State capital, on the coverage of the October 10, 2020 gubernatorial election, Mr. Okoye said: “The allegation that on issue of Presiding Officers is not true. All these people submitted their applications and we vet all the applications in line with due process. This process has been going on for years and we have not abandoned it.

“So, to begin to insinuate that somebody wants to compromise Supervising Officers is neither here nor there. It’s just the usual propaganda when election is approaching and this commission would not be distracted by propaganda and baseless allegations.

“On issue of Z-Pad, some of you are aware that we used Smart Card Reader for purposes of verification and identification. In the Nasarawa election, the commission introduced Z-Pad as secondary verification solution to the smart card reader. If the smart card reader is unable to identify your fingerprints, the Z-Pad will identify you and capture your facials and then you can vote.(The Independent)
