The small town of Amawbia in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State stood still, as the campaign train Chief Victor Umeh, National Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), stormed Awka south to solicit their support in the February 14 senatorial elections.

Addressing a crowd of supporters at Ezi Okpaligwe venue of the rally, Umeh, who came in company of the former Chairman of Awka South Local Government Area, Chief Austin Ndigwe, said that he has never had doubt in the support of Amawbia town for APGA government, saying that the time has come for them to massively throw their weight behind all the candidates of the party who are vying for various political offices.

His words: “We have come to Amawbia today and we have seen and truly believe that Amawbia is an APGA town. We are here on a good foundation, and neither APC nor PDP can trespass.

“The governor under APGA government has done well for the town of Amawbia and will still do more in future. That is the reason you need to support this party that has the interest of its people and the generality of the Igbo at heart. The president-general of the town, Maduka, is an ardent supporter of APGA, because he believes in the Igbo course.

With APGA, development and education for our children is guaranteed. You agree with me that it was the government of APGA that turned around the face of Anambra State to what it is today.

“We need people of integrity and voice to represent us at the various levels, and it’s only in APGA you get those calibre of people, no other party. While I am the upper chamber, Chief Godson Ezenagu will be at the lower chamber, and together with our working governor, Chief Willie Obiano, we will move the state to a greater height.

“Everybody knows me as the National Chairman of APGA, and with my red cap, anytime I raise my hand to talk, they will know Igbos have stood up to talk. And nobody can stop me from talking. I did it at the National Conference, and I will do it again.”

Umeh noted that it was time the Igbo rallied together to fight for their right and strive to achieve it; adding that such feat can only be attained by choosing the right candidates who are going to represent the interest of the Igbo, and not people with only the intent to bear a senator.

On his part, former chairman of Awka South Local Government Area and an APGA chieftain, Chief Austin Ndigwe, said: “We are here to urge you to do as you always do. We know Amawbia has three wards and has always believed in the course of APGA, judging from history.

“Election is on the 14th of February and we are here to present the party’s candidates and solicit for your votes because we are confident you will deliver.”

He added that a vote for APGA means a vote for success, development and good representation.

While endorsing Umeh, the youths of Amawbia, led by their chairman, Mr Ikechukwu Ozoekwe, said that the APGA national chairman has pedigree and has also touched the lives of the youths in a whole lot of ways, hence their decision to endorse him.

Other dignitaries present at the rally include former goal-keeper of Rangers International, Mr Emmanuel Okala, the assistant Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Mr Willie Nwokoye, the candidate for Awka North/South Federal Constituency, Chief Godson Ezenagu, the State House of Assembly candidate for Awka South 2, Mr Hafford Oseke, among others.
