Former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters during in Anambra State, Chief Dubem Obaze, has called on the leadership of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to avoid the temptation of giving tickets to people without commitment to the party.

Obaze, who is currently aspiring to be a senator representing Anambra North federal constituency, noted that there are people who have invested and contributed so much in the party to be ignored or relegated to the background.

He stressed that a situation where people use the party as a platform to win election and dump it thereafter should no longer be tolerated.

Speaking while addressing members of the party in his Ochuche, Ogbaru Local Government Area country home, Obaze pointed out that the major reason the party did not produce any senator in 2011 was because ‘foreigners’ were imposed on the people.

“You cannot do something the same way again and again and expect to get a different result. If APGA fields newcomers into the party to fly its flag in 2015 as it did in 2011, the party is bound to fail again,” Obaze said.

He further said that those angling to pick senatorial ticket in the party in the Anambra North Senatorial Zone are not only new in the party, but have also not contributed anything to its growth.

The APGA Board of Trustees (BoT) member described Ogbaru as the number one APGA local government area in the country, having won for the party all its elections in the past. He noted that some of those who want to use the party as their platform to climb the political ladder were unable to deliver their wards in the last governorship election in the state.

His words: “If we have committed members in the zone, we would not have lost Oyi local government in the last election. There must be honour in what we do. Our party must change this policy of whoever comes, you accept him. May be I am part of the problem because I am a member of BoT.

“APGA is a blessed party but it must be sustained. It must be sustained with work and I am not going anywhere. Our governor is doing very well, but I don’t want a divided APGA.”
