The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Umeh, has said that his party would explore every legal means necessary to forestall the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP’s) usual practice of presenting multiple candidates during the 2015 general elections.

Speaking at an event in Awka put together by youths of the state to endorse his candidacy for the Senate, Umeh recalled that PDP had constantly been using the same scheme in past elections, by creating factions that named different candidates for the same position; which tended to delude the electorate.

His words: “PDP factional leaders in the state were in the habit of telling voters to just vote PDP, as the issue of who will be declared winner was the right of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“The era of presenting multiple candidates is over. We must insist that only one PDP candidate will contest the election. It is therefore better for them to define their leadership and their candidates. If they fail to do that, we will drag them to court, to stop the party from participating in the national and state assembly elections. We will write the national chairman of PDP on the issue this week and by so doing, we would have put the party on notice. It is improper for two or more persons to be contesting for one seat, after which they meet to decide who they should allow to go, to the detriment of other political parties.”

Umeh, however, thanked the youths for remaining steadfast in their support for APGA, as well as his dreams to go to the Senate and give the zone a better representation. Describing the youths as a mass movement that caters for the interest of the people, Umeh noted there can be no success in the polity without the youths’ support and backing.

He pointed out that his reason for desiring to go to the Senate was to make good laws that will shelve pressing problems in Nigeria to make it a great country.

He assured: “I’m ready for this assignment and the opponents we may have in this competition; two of them are our familiar customers. I know what they do and I assure you I will stop them at their tracks. I assure you, people’s votes will count. I’m a candidate in the election, but my participation in this election will make it more credible. INEC has started doing a good job in the country and I’m sure they will do better in 2015. The vote of the people will determine who will win the election; and since votes will count, APGA will win the elections all-round.”
