Technical commissioning of the Nigerian Air Force Base Injection Sub-Station, constructed by Niger Delta Power Holding Company, has been conducted by the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KEDC).

Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of KEDC, Alhaji Idris Mohammed, during yesterday’s technical committee inspection visit to NAF Base, Mothercat and Ungwan Boro old sub-stations in Kaduna, said power will be available in Kaduna and Zaria 24 hours real time as soon as the Mothercat, Ungwan Dosa and NAF Base sub-stations are fully commissioned.

Governor of Kaduna State, Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, is expected to conduct an official commissioning of the projects soon.

The KEDC MD while fielding questions from newsmen said the purpose of the additional Injection Station project is to improve power supply to the Air Force Base and environs. While that of Mothercat, is to de-load the network on Mando area and the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) area.

“Hopefully within the next few days, I believe we will begin to get impact report on the NAF Base project,” he said.

Alhaji Mohammed assured that within the next one week, the Mothercat Injection Sub-Station would be ready for technical commissioning.

“The purpose will not be far-fetched,” he said. “The Federal Government has already promised that power will be available to Nigerians and in Kaduna we are setting the pace and we believe that when we commission these projects, including that of Ungwan Dosa, I can tell you that, power will be available in Kaduna and Zaria 24 hours real time.”

He stated that the company would continue to give safety optimal priority in its quest to deliver 24 hour power supply to the zone.

The KEDC management has meanwhile condoled the family of late Umra Baba, 32, an enterprising journalist who was recently killed in an auto accident that while on her way from Kaduna to Abuja for an assignment.

MD/CEO Mohammed who led the KEDC team expressed sadness over the incident, saying: “The late Umra, I know her to be very hardworking and it is not surprising that she is trying to keep appointment in Abuja and had a head-on collusion with an oncoming vehicle.

“It’s really very tragic experience, but it is Allah’s wish and He knows better than us why He had to take her at a time we needed her most.”

Alhaji Mohammed described Umra’s death as a period of grief for the media, her colleagues and the family and prayed to Allah to grant her infinite mercy and see the family through this trying period.

Father of the deceased, Alhaji Hassan Mohammed Baba, thanked the KEDC delegation for the visit and prayed to Allah to reward them accordingly.

Late Umra, a graduate of the University of Abuja and a staff of Discovery Channel, is survived by her father and her mother, Haj Hafsat Baba, former National Woman Leader of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), as well as two sisters and two brothers.
