A world government is the only way to solve the problems of mankind, Jehovah’s Witnesses have said. Delivering a Public Discourse entitled ‘Earth’s New Ruler—Who Really Qualifies?’ on Sunday, a travelling overseer, Noah Shaba Akande, observed that the world is presently full of problems.

“There are problems everywhere,” he said, identifying some of the pressing problems to include poverty, corruption as well as environmental and social problems. Akande noted that these problems are universal and that “it will take a world government to solve a worldwide problem.”

Quoting copiously from the Bible, he said that problems abound today because “the whole world is lying in the hands of the wicked one, Satan the Devil.” The speaker said that, in the circumstances, “it is impossible for humans to establish such a world government and successfully operate it.” To support this, he quoted Jeremiah 10:23, where the Bible states that “it does not belong to man who is working to direct his steps.”

Akande submitted that since only Jehovah God who created the world knows how it works, he alone can set up the desired world government and successfully operate it. He drew attention to Matthew 6:9,10, where the Bible urges Christians to pray: “Let your Kingdom come.”

Continuing, Akande said that Jehovah God has appointed Jesus Christ as the king of the world government to rule from the heavens. “He is the only one qualified to rule and has been empowered by Jehovah God to carry out his purpose,” Akande said, quoting Isaiah 9:6,7. He added: “Jesus has the authority to give life to countless humans who exercise faith in his ransom sacrifice. He will tackle all the world’s problems and tackle injustice. He has the power to undo all the effects of Satan’s rulership.”

Heard by 5,053 delegates, the talk was one of the highlights of the ongoing 2014 Convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses holding at the Ota Assembly Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Ogun State. The Convention, which has as theme, ‘Keep Seeking First God’s Kingdom!’, holds from Friday to Sunday every week until December 14, 2014. A total of 12 conventions are scheduled to hold at the venue while 271 conventions will hold across 30 Nigerian cities.
