Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KEDC) is set to commission three new injection sub stations at Nigerian Air Force Base, Mothercat and Hanwa in Zaria, all in Kaduna State.

KEDC Chief Executive Officer, Alhaji Idris Mohammed, who disclosed this, said the move is aimed to improve power supply in the state. KEDC covers Kaduna, Zamfara, Sokoto and Kebbi states.

Speaking in Kaduna when he hosted the leadership of Correspondents Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Kaduna State Chapter, led by its Chairman, Malam Garba Muhammad in his office, the KEDC boss commended journalists for their cordial relationship with his company.

He said that unlike the situation before he assumed office when the company faced many negative reports and bad image, the media now help to point out deficiencies such as fraud, poor service and illegal activities by staff to which solutions are immediately found.

Alhaji Idris said the new substations would put the challenges facing customers, especially at Air Force Base, to an end. He added that as they expect the new owners to take over the company, they are satisfied with their customers who are paying their bills regularly as they enjoy minimum of 18 hours electricity per day.

Said Alhaji Idris: “On September 29, we are commissioning three new injection substations at Air Force Base, Mothercat and Hanwa in Zaria. By the time we commission these substations, the people in those areas would say bye to blackout.

“I feel happy as I am about to hand over to new owners because my customers are happy. The customers should prepare for happier days when there would be uninterrupted power supply in Kaduna state.

“Vandalism is also a big issue but with the cooperation of the media we have been able to overcome all the issues, we now have sense of direction. KEDC want to ensure that power is available 24 hours a day.”

The NUJ Correspondent Chapel Chairman, Garba Muhammad, said he and his executive members were at KEDC to parley with the management of the company and work out areas where they can collaborate for the progress of the state and the society.

“Correspondent Chapel of the NUJ Kaduna state is composed of 74 members from various print and broadcast media with headquarters outside Kaduna State. We want to partner with PHCN and KEDC to see how we can further develop the state,” he said.
