Awka, the Anambra State capital, was agog recently as Dominion City Church, Awka branch, rolled out the drums of charity for the inhabitants via the provision of basic health care, cash, food items, and care to the less privileged.

The charity work which was organised by the church and led by the Resident Senior Pastor Ifeanyi Oguchi, kicked off with prayer session before embarking on a visit to hospitals, the destitute along the roads and free medical care for all, at the church premises in Awka.

Irrespective of denominational affiliation, the charity work programme, which was tagged “Good neighbour weekend,” included checking of blood pressure, blood sugar level (through a mobile lab unit) as well as giving free drugs prescribed by the four visiting medical consultants from Nnewi, and Amaku Teaching Hospital, Awka.

According to an elder of the church, the programme was born out of the need to reach out to the needy people in the society and also continue with the work Jesus did while on earth. “Jesus demands personal involvement in caring for other’s needs.”

In a chat with News Express, Mrs, Ifunanya Okafor, who received N5,000 gift from the church visiting crew at her sick bed at Amaku Teaching Hospital said that it was that same amount that kept her from being discharged from the hospital, adding: “I have been cured of my ailment but could not leave the hospital. The N5,000 was exactly what I needed to settle my hospital bill. In fact, this is a huge miracle; this people are God-sent. I am speechless and I thank God for bringing them this way to meet me at the point of my need. If all churches are like this, then the world will be a better place.”

Dominion City Church, which is one of the most popular churches in Awka, was founded by Pastor David Ogbueli. It had in the past visited hospitals and the less privileged on a monthly basis, including Awka Prisons.
