In the early hours of today, Ghanaians were treated to an exciting boxing bout between two extremely popular boxers in the country.

The much awaited fight between Ayitey Powers and Bukom Banku received a lot hype in Ghana after Ayitey Powers visited Nigerian popular pastor, TB Joshua’s Synagogue church in Lagos, where he was said to have been exorcised of demons afflicting him and promised victory in the fight by the pastor.

The cruiserweight fight, which had been postponed twice at the behest of Powers, acting on the advice of Pastor Joshua, finally took place at the Accra Sports Stadium. Bukom Bakum was unanimously declared winner by the judges in a match in which he bossed all the rounds, even though he failed to land a knockout punch.

On hand to watch the fight was former Ghana president Jerry Rawlings and some top retired Ghanaian boxing personalities.

Some months ago, Ayitey Powers was reportedly delivered from what was referred to as ‘demonic influences’ at TB Joshua’s Synagogue Church of All Nations in a dramatic deliverance service. One of Joshua’s ‘wise men’ asked during the ‘deliverance’: “Who are you to him?”

A shaky Powers responded, “and today too, why are you worrying me like that?”

After some further exchanges between the self-styled man of God and the imaginary demon inside Powers, the ‘wise man’ proceeded to cast out the purported devil from Powers’ body.

A grateful Powers then said: “God, thank you for my deliverance. Thank you, Jesus, for my deliverance.”

Speaking with News Express after Powers lost the bout this morning, Graham knight, a member of the Humanist Association of Ghana, said: “This is proof that simply visiting TBJ for deliverance will not fulfil your desires. The lesson is to believe in no man, even those who claim to talk to the gods.”
