The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has expressed concern over the lopsided appointment of the leadership of the National Conference which has once again unveiled the truth that Ndi Igbo are still being relegated to the back ground in the affairs of the nation.

“The head of the National Conference Justice Idris Kutigi is from the North, assisted by Bolaji Akinyemi from South West, Dr Valezia Azinge is from South South. Now you ask: why must Ndi Igbo continue to be marginalised even when we say we operate one Nigeria?”

The above concern was contained in a statement issued by the Acting National Publicity Secretary of APGA, Mr Stanley Chira, who added that, we are watching and will not be surprised if the vast majority of the delegates to the Conference will be ceded to a particular tribe, which will give them an edge in both leadership and numerical strength. “Then, one will ask, what is the essence of the conference when it is lopsided and staged to favour a group?”

Citing other instances of official bias against Ndigbo, he mentioned three specific cases of deliberate neglect. First, Chira drew attention to the recent promotion exercise in the Nigeria Police, in which the Igbo was completely blacked out as if there was an official memo from the Police Headquarters to exempt Ndigbo. “Not a single Igbo man or woman was promoted or even considered in acting capacity. Second was the federal boards or panels constituted by President Goodluck Jonathan’s Government. According to the APGA spokesman, “not one Igbo man person was considered good enough to head a board/panel or to be represented at the decision-making table.” This, he noted, is very unfair to a people who voted massively for the President and stood firmly behind him since the inception of his administration. Chira also expressed his party’s dissatisfaction with the PDP government.

His words: “The government is unfair to Ndigbo, and APGA is not finding it funny, because despite all the solidarity the party gave to this administration, we are unjustly treated. Ndigbo gave the President the best of support and yet they are relegated to the back room.”

Notwithstanding the delay, Chira added: “We believe that Dr Goodluck Jonathan will address some of these anomalies, to earn for himself the attributes of a just and fair President.”
