Less than 48 hours after gunmen struck at the border village of Izge in Borno State, killing 106 persons, another set of gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram insurgents on Monday night attacked Galga village in Ga’anda District of Gombi local government area of Adamawa State, killing 11 persons.

Eyewitnesses who pleaded anonymity explained that, the insurgents attacked the village at about 8:30pm and sporadically shot at people resulting in the casualties.

According to the eyewitnesses in Adamawa, the police went to Galga village in the morning and released the eleven corpses of those killed by the terrorists to their respective families, after “necessary” investigations had been carried out.

When contacted, the Adamawa Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Muhammed Ibrahim, confirmed the attack, but did not specify the dead toll.

Ibrahim however, said that the details of the incident could be obtained from the military, saddled with the responsibility of surveillance in the state.

A citizen of Gaanda District who narrowly escaped the attack, described the assault on the residents by the terrorists as “pathetic”.

According to him, the district is located in a mountainous region but the insurgents have trooped in several times, attacking innocent persons and sometimes demand money before killing people.

A resident who had a phone conference with newsmen said they have remained helpless because the insurgents use sophisticated weapons against their dane guns.

In another bloody incident, Fulani mercenaries numbering about 200 invaded the densely populated Benue community Angyom, Tse-Usenda and Tse-Torkula the ancestral home of the paramount ruler, killing anything on sight and burning down houses, huts and farmland.

“The herdsmen who were over 200, stormed Tse-Torkula, Angyom and Tse-Usenda settlements at the early hours of Tuesday when everyone was still at sleep,’’ a source said, adding:

“It was the sporadic gunshots that woke everybody up and we all scampered for safety but as I speak to you, at least seven persons have been killed while not less than 100 houses have been razed down.

“We have lost several of our farmland while we are yet to account for over 40 persons who are still missing as a result of the invasion; heavy fighting is still raging as I speak to you and the communities have been deserted, but we hope that the missing persons are still alive.”

Confirming the attack on phone, the Guma Local Government council Chairman, Mr. Frank Adi, expressed grief over the renewed invasion saying that his people were becoming refugees in their own state.

Meanwhile, not less than seven people were feared killed in Gero village of Jos South Local Government Area of neighbouring Plateau State by unknown gunmen.

According to reliable sources, the gunmen attacked the car in which some passengers were traveling and killed all the passengers – all traders who were returning from a village market in the locality.

When contacted, the public relations officer of the Plateau Police Command, DSP Felicia Anslem, confirmed the sad development. According to her, the gunmen attacked the passengers while they were returning from a village market in the locality.
