For Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, and the All Progressives Congress (APC), it was a victory to celebrate as news came this afternoon about the redeployment of the State Police Commissioner, Mr. Joseph Mbu.

Amaechi, who has been locked in a struggle with the federal authorities, has repeatedly demanded Mbu’s transfer on the grounds that he had become part of the problem and compounded the security situation in the state.

Amaechi and APC’s position has been supported by several groups and political heavyweights. The demand was further boosted on July 24 when the Nigerian Senate passed a resolution seeking the redeployment of Mbu.

The resolution aligned with that of the House of Representatives, which on July 10 urged Inspector General of Police M.D. Abubakar to redeploy Mbu over his “unprofessionalism and political partisanship.”

All that, however, made no impact until today when Mbu was finally redeployed to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as the new Commissioner of Police. He has been replaced with Johnson Ogunsakin as the new Rivers State ComPol.

Mbu’s redeployment alongside 12 other Commissioners of Police was confirmed in a statement issued by the Police Service Commission and signed by Ferdinand Ukpe, which said:

“The Police Service Commission has approved the recommendations of the Inspector General of Police for the redeployment of thirteen (13) Commissioners of Police to various Commands nationwide:

“The Chairman of the Commission, Sir Mike Mbama Okiro, equally admonished the newly redeployed officers to put in their best in their various Commands’ operations, so as to provide a secure environment for business and life to thrive.”

Other Commissioners of Police redeployed are: Ambrose Aisabo, Felix Uyanya, Abdulmajid Ali, Benjamin Onwuka, Ibrahim Maishanu, Adamu Ibrahim, Aderenle Shinaba, Umaru Shehu, AJ Abakasanga, Kalafiteh Adeyemi and Ibrahim Idris.
