Akwa Ibom Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio, has attributed the success and elevation to positions of authority of the then students of the Nigerian Law School (NLS) Class ’88 to the grace of God Almighty.

Akpabio stated this yesterday during a dinner to mark the silver jubilee/give-back project of the NLS of Class ’88 at Tinapa, Calabar of Cross River State, while conducting a fund launch to spur the other former students to contribute as a give-back project to the NLS.

He remarked: “For every elevation we find ourselves in life, we must always remember to give glory to God. We are all a success today because God stood by us even when most of us were struggling to get along in school due to financial strain then. God saw us all through and today we have made a positive impact in the nation.”

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, who also spoke at the event, said that Class ’88 was the most outstanding set at the Nigerian Law School, Lagos.

Anyim applauded the entire members of the class as the most uncommon set for their commitment to leave a legacy in the law school and to contribute to necessary projects needed in the school.

The host of this year’s anniversary, Senator Liyel Imoke, the Cross River State Governor, said it was an honour for the state to host the event, pointing out that the event represents a reflection of the great country because a lot of our success started taking place between 1987/88.

Imoke said: “Being the 25th anniversary of the class, the members celebrate to give God the glory, they celebrate what Nigeria represents, they celebrate the people who have contributed to the success of the society, they celebrate for the future of the great country.” The governor thanked those who saw to their emergence while in school.

He assured that the entire members of class 88 would be ready to fund an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) lab at the Lagos Law School as a give-away project costing about N150 million.

Earlier, during a football match at the University of Calabar Sports Field to kick-start the celebration, members of Class ’88 were divided into the Legacy team and Jubilee team. Jubilee team defeated the Legacy team by 2-0 and received the golden trophy.

Senator Anyim, who was in the winning team, while decorating the players with medals, noted that the football game had been transparent and fair. Governor Imoke, who was with the Legacy team, congratulated his team-mates for making it to the finals, although they lost, saying that they exhibited the spirit of fair play and togetherness and that the team was gender friendly as women were also among the players.

Governor Akpabio, who was also on the team, congratulated Governor Imoke for a level-playing field, which he said was transparent and fair, stressing that by 2015, Peoples Democratic Party would also demonstrate fairness and transparency during the next elections.

Akpabio who decorated Senator Anyim and other players on the winning team with medals, said the medal was a sign of victory for the team. Governors Akpabio, Imoke and their other team players were also decorated with medals.
