Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, has warned all his political appointees to desist from granting political interviews.

He gave the warning yesterday while speaking at a memorial thanksgiving service for Pa Donald Ochei and Mama Juliet Ochei, parents of the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Onicha-Olona, Aniocha North local Government Area of Delta State.

The governor said anything capable of overheating the polity ahead of the 2015 general elections must be avoided.

“As far as I am concerned, no political appointee in Delta State should grant political interview so that we do not overheat the system, you can grant interviews on the official duties of your department, ministry or agency,” he stated.

Uduaghan noted that with the dates of the general elections drawing near, political office seekers should not be distracted by lies and rumours but charged them to be focused in their quest to achieve their political ambition.

In particular, he charged the various aspirants to go about their businesses in a peaceful and lawful manner as the government would not tolerate acts or utterances capable of breaching the peace of the state.

“We should not say things that will heat up the polity; our utterances should be matured, edifying and guarded. God Almighty is the one that put us in positions, no matter what you do if God says a person will enter an office, that person will make it to that office,” he said.

The governor used the occasion to urge Nigerians to imbibe the virtues of the late parents of Rt. Hon. Ochei, asserting: “Be principled, truthful and honourable.”

While thanking God for the lives the deceased persons lived, the Governor commended the children of the late Ocheis for honouring their parents.

The Bishop of Asaba Diocese of the Anglican Communion, Rt. Revd. Justus Mogekwu, had during a sermon at the service which was attended by people of all walks of life, said the late Ocheis lived lives worthy to be emulated and urged Christians to bring up their children in the ways of God.
