The Progressive People’s Alliance gubernatorial candidate in Anambra State, Mr. Godwin Chukwunaenye Ezeemo, has condemned the attitude of Igbo elites who he said have not been entirely truthful to the people.

Ezeemo made the statement yesterday while addressing a cross section of students drawn from the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, and Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam.

He observed that the Igbo people are yet to appoint leaders who will hold their common interest over and above their selfish interest.

Ezeemo said: “Our elites have not been sincere to us. We have had several chances at the federal level but we misused them due to selfishness and greed. Now that we do not have as much chance again, we are bickering that we are being marginalised.”

The governorship candidate noted that the reason most school graduates are unemployable in Igboland is because the elders have aided and abetted cutting corners in school and the ‘special centre’ syndrome.

He advised the youths to develop good character which he noted was the foundation of his success in life as well as his humble background.

The Publisher of Orient Daily newspaper said good character is what is needed among the youths, adding that any wealth that doesn’t have a sound foundation is bound to fade away.

He further stated: “The problem we have in these parts of the world is deceit. If you cannot stand firmly in whatever you believe in, you are not going anywhere. Character is nurtured and developed. It is not inborn.

“My stay in the United Kingdom exposed me to the stigma the black man attracted to himself among other races, because he has continued to indulge corrupt leaders and corrupt systems.

“When I arrived the shores of England in 1993, I saw how beautiful the place was and how our leaders used to bring their children to study there and stay for holidays. I could not understand it but it was obvious they controlled enough resources to make our land where they govern as comfortable as the western world.

“I told myself that I would not spend my whole life there but will come back here and be part of developing my place of birth. That all men are not equal is man-made. If we have love among ourselves, we would not be at this level. What we have is more than enough to make here a greener pasture.”

In his remarks, the leader of the group, Celestine Okolo, hailed Ezeemo for inspiring them while reiterating his group’s resolve to spread the message of a better Anambra under the governorship of Godwin Ezeemo to the entire Anambra youths.

He regretted the tough situation in the country saying that they, however, find hope in a man like the PPA governorship candidate.

“We have taken time to study you and compare your personality with those of other aspiring gubernatorial candidates and we have seen without an iota of doubt that you stand head and shoulder above the rest of them.

“We have said we want to be part of history and have made ourselves available to make every sacrifice required in delivering you as the governor of Anambra State, come November 18, 2017,” he said.
