He said: “I received with deep sorrow the news of the sudden death of F/No. 520061 CPL Blessing Omene of the Safer Highway Patrol, on 30th September, 2026, who was reportedly struck by a truck while on duty along Glory Land Drive, East–West Road.

“On behalf of the Bayelsa State Police Command, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the officer’s family, colleagues and the entire Safer Highway Patrol Unit. We mourn an officer who only reported for duty in service to the public and did not return home.

“As we remember Blessing, let it be in our minds that this is one sad event that pains the command to the marrow and disturbs the mind of the IGP and his management Team. As the saying goes that the fall of a leaf is a warning to the others, I strongly appeal to us all to take every possible care to protect ourselves in the course of protecting others.

“I urge all officers, particularly those working on highways, to remain alert to approaching traffic, position themselves safely and follow established road safety procedures during operations. Supervisors must reinforce these precautions at every briefing.

“I want to sincerely appreciate the efforts of the Team mates who ensured the arrest of the suspect. The Command stands with the bereaved family at this difficult time and we pray God Almighty comfort the bereaved family and grant repose to the soul of the departed,” he said. (Weekend Trust)
