Ahead of the two days Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Anambra chapter SWAN Games, the Commissioner of Police in the State, CP Nnanna-Oji Ama, has called on youths to shun drugs, crimes and rather channel their energy to positive endeavours.

He made the call during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the Association in his office at Amawbia.

The Sports Week which had the theme “Sports for Peace and Economic Empowerment” is scheduled to hold at Cosmilla Hotel Sports Arena between Aug 20 and Aug 21, 2026

The CP also called for the cooperation of the media and the good people of Anambra in the task of making Anambra crime free and safe for all.

While approving the participation of the Police team in the event, Ama promised to reposition the sports doctorate of the Command to winning ways

He added: “Sports is a vital tool for mental and physical alertness as well as a positive way of channeling energy especially for the youths

“I urge the participating teams to play fair and win fair. It is an avenue for building stronger bonds.

Earlier in his speech, the state SWAN Chairman, Chimezie Anaso, said the event was designed to promote physical fitness, mental alertness and healthy relaxation among journalists and participating teams.

Meanwhile, the Anambra State Football Association and All Stars Football Club of Awka have signed up to participate in the games.
