The Ijesa South Campaign Council of the Accord Party in Osun State has urged the electorate to dismiss all threats of violence, assuring voters that adequate security personnel have been deployed to guarantee safety during Saturday’s governorship election.

Addressing journalists in Ilesa on Thursday, Hon. Babatunde Dosu, Chairman of the Ijesa South Campaign Council, allayed public fears and called on citizens to come out in their numbers to vote overwhelmingly for Governor Ademola Adeleke’s second-term bid.

Dosu, who also serves as the state’s Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, emphasised that exercising their franchise is of paramount importance for residents of the Ijesa South Federal Constituency, comprising Ilesa East, Ilesa West, Atakumosa East and Atakumosa West, as well as the entire state.

“The Federal Government has approved the deployment of ten security personnel per polling unit. This is a substantial measure designed to provide maximum protection for voters, electoral officials, and election materials across the four Local Government Areas of our constituency.

“The Federal Government has given the security forces a clear mandate to deal decisively with any individual or group attempting to cause mayhem or disrupt the electoral process,” Dosu stated.

Urging residents to ignore intimidation from any quarter, “no matter how highly placed,” Dosu stressed that the security forces are fully prepared to ensure a free, fair and credible election, with the full weight of the law awaiting troublemakers.

He also commended the Osun State Government for proactively collaborating with federal agencies, traditional rulers and community leaders to foster harmony and maintain a peaceful environment across the state.

Reminding voters of the voting schedule, with polls opening at 8:00 am and closing promptly at 2:00 pm, Dosu encouraged citizens to arrive early, cast their ballots and return home peacefully.

He lauded Governor Adeleke as a leader whose monumental infrastructural strides and achievements across the state “speak for themselves.”

Meanwhile, fielding questions from journalists, another zonal leader and the State Commissioner for Health, Jola Akintola, demanded the immediate release of detained Accord Party chieftains in Ijesa South and other parts of the state.

Akintola dismissed fears that alleged threats of violence by opposition politicians would trigger voter apathy, expressing absolute confidence that the heavy security presence would bolster public confidence for a massive turnout. (The Sun)
