A 32-year-old indigene of Doma Local Government Area (LGA) of Nasarawa State and a graduate of Psychology from Nasarawa State University, Mr. Abubakar Idris Adamu, has vowed to challenge serving Senator Suleiman Asonya Adokwe at the polls in 2019.

Senator Adokwe, Chairman, Senate Committee on Information and National Orientation, is currently serving a third term representing Nasarawa South, comprising Lafia, Doma, Obi, Keana and Awe LGAs.

Mr. Adamu, a self-acclaimed Ambassador of MDGs and a Post-Graduate student of Peace and Conflict Resolution, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) in a chat with journalists in Kaduna, declared that, Sen. Adokwe of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) “has ran out of energy, has not been a voice, has been ineffective and lacks purposeful representation of the people of the senatorial zone.”

According to him, “We have experienced a 12 years wasteful representation at the National Assembly, therefore, somebody must take the bull by the horns and make sacrifices to provide effective and purposeful representation to rescue our people,” he said.

He said as a concerned citizen of the state, who will attain the mandatory 35 years in April 2019 to be constitutionally eligible to vie for Senate, the people of his zone are currently experiencing underdeveloped in the area of education, healthcare services, portable water supply, rural electrification project, agriculture, federal road projects especially abandoned Doma/Abuja, Doma/Makurdi federal road network as well as employment opportunity to teaming unemployed graduates from the zone.

“Right now, I am making consultations and mobilising for support ahead of 2019.

“The lack of attraction of investors to complement government efforts in providing employment to youths in the zone has generated a lot of criminal activities in the zone.

“So, since our current Senator has failed, people like me will take a bold step to rescue our zone from total isolation from current development opportunity in line with the change agenda of the federal government.”

Though, Mr. Adamu did not clearly state which party platform he intends to contest on, he also said having already identified the pressing needs of the people of the zone, he has decided to ensure that those needs are properly tackled in the 9th Senate.

Sen Adokwe, when contacted on phone, did not respond to calls and text messages sent to his number.
