Chocolate City has commenced legal proceedings against Nigerian rapper, Tochukwu Gbubemi Ojogwu, popularly known as Odumodublvck, after one of its staff members filed a N50 million suit over an assault claim arising from an incident at the 2025 Flytime Festival in Lagos.

The legal action was announced by the music label after court documents surfaced showing that its Project Manager and Public Relations Officer instituted proceedings at the High Court of Lagos State, Lagos Judicial Division. The claimant says the incident occurred on December 22, 2025, backstage at the Eko Convention Centre while he was carrying out his professional duties for a Chocolate City artiste booked to perform at the festival.

In a statement, Chocolate City said it commenced legal proceedings following the incident involving its employee. The company said the staff member has received medical attention and appropriate support, adding that the welfare and safety of its employees remain a top priority and that it is committed to pursuing the matter through the legal process.

According to the statement of claim, the claimant was backstage with the artiste, the artiste’s personal security, a bouncer and accredited event security personnel when Odumodublvck arrived at the area.

The claimant states that the rapper interacted with several people backstage before approaching him and asking whether it was the claimant or his brother who worked at Chocolate City.

He further claims that “without any provocation, justification, or lawful excuse whatsoever,” the defendant “forcefully struck the Claimant in the face and immediately thereafter pushed him aggressively while issuing threats, thereby causing the Claimant physical pain, shock, fear, and emotional distress.”

The court filing further states that despite the intervention of a security bouncer who attempted to restrain the defendant and de-escalate the situation, the defendant continued his conduct and made verbal threats, including statements that he would “end” the claimant.

The claimant also alleges that one of the defendant’s associates, identified as “Shagba,” acting in concert with the defendant and on his instruction, poured an alcoholic drink on him, further compounding the incident.

According to the court documents, the defendant later attempted to return and continue the confrontation after being restrained by security personnel while making additional threats, including that he would beat and “fuck up” the claimant “by any and all means available.”

The claimant says the incident caused panic backstage and led to his evacuation, alongside members of his team, to a secure location.

The suit states that the claimant sustained recurrent headaches, pain and swelling to his face and neck, general body pain and psychological trauma. He says he received treatment at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), where he was advised to observe strict rest and suspend work engagements while recovering.

According to the court filing, the claimant incurred ?2 million in medical expenses, ?1 million in ancillary medical costs and ?1.5 million in additional out-of-pocket expenses.

The claimant further states that the injuries prevented him from attending professional engagements during the festive period, including an overseas trip with a Chocolate City artiste, resulting in financial losses and missed career opportunities.

He is asking the court to award ?50 million in damages, which the suit says represents income from delayed project deliverables, estimated loss of productivity and missed professional engagements. The claimant says he will rely on contracts, booking confirmations and related correspondence during the trial.

Chocolate City said it is treating the matter with the utmost seriousness and has expressed its commitment to seeing justice served through the legal process on behalf of its employee.

Odumodublvck had not publicly responded to the lawsuit at the time of filing this report. The claims contained in the court documents remain before the court for determination. AriseNews TV)
