Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, has threatened to exit non-performing civil servants in the state, even as he expressed his desire for significant reforms within the state civil service.

He issued the threat during an unscheduled visit to the State Secretariat on Thursday, March 26, 2026, to assess employee conduct, punctuality, and overall dedication to duty.

The visit, which covered different ministries and departments, was aimed at evaluating the current work culture and the level of commitment among public servants.

The governor engaged directly with the workforce during the visit, observing work operations. He also interacted with officials across different cadres.

Addressing journalists after the inspection, Soludo described his observation as a combination of “the good, the bad, and the ugly,” adding that while some civil servants demonstrated commendable professionalism, others fell short of expected standards.

While commending some diligent workers who maintain punctuality and uphold the ethics of public service, he cited them as those critical to the effective functioning of government.

The Governor however expressed worry over cases of lateness, absenteeism, and lack of commitment among some employees.

He however warned that his administration would not tolerate inefficiency, saying that workers unwilling to align with the state’s reform agenda would face consequences.

Soludo said: “Non-Performing Civil Servants will be exited. Government is determined to instill discipline and improve service delivery.

"There are ongoing investments by this administration to strengthen the civil service, including. deployment of technology, enhanced supervision and evaluation mechanisms, and infrastructure upgrades within the secretariat."

According to him, the goal is to build a responsive, efficient, and results-oriented public service capable of meeting the expectations of Ndi Anambra and supporting the state’s broader development objectives.
