The truth of God’s word as found in the Bible has been described as an antidote to the hopelessness now pervading the world.

Speaking yesterday during the opening day of this year’s convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses at Ota, Ogun State, Mr. Paul Amos Enakireru attributed the tide of hopelessness across the world to thye fact that “man’s battle to make the world a better place has failed. Political, social and scientific leaders have tried their best to ameliorate suffering but they have not succeeded.”

Enakireru, who spoke on the topic, “The Truth Sets Us Free From Hopelessness”, noted that efforts by medical experts to find a cure to some diseases have proved abortive while the police and other security agencies have failed to ensure security.

“Human efforts to address human problems have failed. It goes to show that resting our hope on the efforts of humans is futile and leads to hopelessness,” said Enakireru, quoting Jeremiah 10:23.

The only realistic hope, according to him, rests with man’s maker, Jehovah God, who, according to him, holds out genuine hope by means of His kingdom. “The truth sets us free from hopelessness as it points to God’s kingdom as the only sure hope of mankind,” Enakireru stated.

The convention, which has as theme, ‘God’s Word Is Truth!’, ends tomorrow at the Assembly Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses located along Ota – Idi Iroko Road. Similar conventions have been scheduled to hold Friday to Sunday till December 22, 2013.

Apart from Ota, conventions would also hold in English and local languages in several other Nigerian cities, namely, Agbor, Akabo, Akure, Awi, Badagry, Benin City, Daluwon, Enugu, Igwuruta Ali, Ikot Ekpene, Ikot Nko, Ilesa, Ilorin, Jos, Kaduna, Katsina Ala, Kwali, Lekki, Makurdi, Mgboko Umuoria, Okitipupa, Oyede, Sokoto, Ubogo, Uli, Uzuakoli and Zaria.

A statement by the News Service Department of the Convention Organisation said: “Everyone who is interested is invited to attend. Seating is free and there is no collection of any sort.”
