A 29-year-old banker, Dolapo Fakayi was arraigned in a Life Camp Chief Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for allegedly swindling his customer of 800 dollars.

The police charged Fakayi, of Bright School, Loko Mararaba Nasarawa State with criminal conspiracy and cheating.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him by the police.

The Prosecutor, Mrs Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that on Feb. 8 the complainant, Mrs. Cynthia Anyanwu, the customer service manager of UBA, Gwarinpa branch, Abuja reported the matter at the Gwarinpa Police Station.

According to Nwachukwu, the defendant is an employee of the bank, specifically working in the direct sales department.

He told the court that the defendant received 800 dollars from a customer, Sdidu Amina, for the purpose of opening a dollar account with the said bank.

Nwachukwu said the defendant dishonestly collected the money from the customer and refused to open the dollar account rather he converted the said 800 dollars to his personal use.

She said during police investigation and interrogation, the defendant made a confessional statement and the offence contravened Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.

The Magistrate Musa Jobbo admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with one surety in like sum.

Jobbo ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and provide reliable means of identification.

The case was adjourned to March 11 for hearing. (NAN)
