From tomorrow, September 27, to Sunday, December 22, Ota, the industrial and religious hub of Ogun State, will come alive as thousands of Jehovah’s Witnesses converge on the town for their 2013 convention series.

This year, the Witnesses are beaming the searchlight on the truth and this is reflected in the theme of the convention, ‘God’s Word Is Truth!’

The three-day district convention will be held in English and Yoruba, every weekend, at the Assembly Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses located along Ota – Idi Iroko Road. It will feature various talks designed to firmly establish the Bible as the truth of God’s word and how living by its standards can bring genuine happiness, make people to become better individuals and give hope for the future.

One of the several symposiums entitled “The Truth Sets Us Free” will clearly outline how the truth can free those who accept it from alienation from God, a bad conscience, false beliefs, bad habits, hopelessness, and bad associates. There will also be talks on the best way to raise well-behaved and responsible children.

Drama is one of the special features of conventions of Jehovah’s Witnesses and this year is no exception. Two dramatic plays will bring Bible stories and their lessons to life, in addition to a sound drama on how being faithful can help one conquer his or her fears.

One the highlights of the convention series is the intriguing talk entitled ‘What Is Truth?’ to be delivered on Sunday morning, which will examine why we can trust God’s Word, the Bible.

A statement by the News Service Department of the Convention Organisation said: “Everyone who is interested is invited to attend. Seating is free and there is no collection of any sort.”

Apart from Ota, conventions would also hold in English and local languages in several other Nigerian cities, namely, Agbor, Akabo, Akure, Awi, Badagry, Benin City, Daluwon, Enugu, Igwuruta Ali, Ikot Ekpene, Ikot Nko, Ilesa, Ilorin, Jos, Kaduna, Katsina Ala, Kwali, Lekki, Makurdi, Mgboko Umuoria, Okitipupa, Oyede, Sokoto, Ubogo, Uli, Uzuakoli and Zaria.
