Fourteen members of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) have resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Mr Suleiman Gankuba, ALGON Chairman in Adamawa, disclosed this at a press briefing on Friday in Yola.

Gankuba said the decision was guided by conviction and a shared commitment to stand in solidarity with the state governor.

He said the move reflected renewed determination to better serve constituents at the grassroots.

The chairman said their decision aligned with citizens’ aspirations for continuity, stability and progress.

He said: “Our movement is not an abandonment of principles but a reaffirmation of them.

“We are joining the APC as partners ready to work, not as strangers, with vision and resolve to deepen development and strengthen governance.”

He said their alignment with the APC was aimed at consolidating ongoing development efforts and ensuring sustained growth across local government areas.

Gankuba added that seven other ALGON members were consulting stakeholders and grassroots supporters before taking a final decision on their political alignment.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports (NAN) that the governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has also formally defected to the APC. (NAN)
