The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, has refuted claims of an ongoing recruitment exercise.

The command made the clarification in a statement issued on Thursday in Kano by its Public Relations Officer, SC Ibrahim Abdullahi.

The command said it was currently training screened volunteers to enhance professionalism and curb misconduct within its ranks.

According to him, the management’s attention was drawn to fake and misleading information circulating among the public alleging that the corps had commenced recruitment of regular personnel in the state.

Abdullahi said, “The NSCDC is not recruiting regular staff in Kano, but conducting training for volunteer personnel to enhance effective service delivery.

“Upon assumption of office in November 2025, the current State Commandant Mohammed Hassan-Agalama met over 10,000 volunteers in the command, amid reports of unethical conduct and behaviours inconsistent with the corps’ professional standards.”

He added that the development negatively affected the image of the organisation and necessitated decisive administrative action.

“Consequently, the command carried out a comprehensive screening exercise, which reduced the number of volunteers from over 10,000 to 3,000 for effective supervision and management,” Abdullahi said

He said that the retained volunteers were currently undergoing training at the command’s Headquarters to equip them with basic operational knowledge and the core principles of the service.

The command disclosed that the participants would receive certificates of attendance, identification numbers and identity cards at the end of the training programme.

Abdullahi further explained that the initiative was aimed at addressing recurring cases of unethical conduct among volunteers and preventing impersonators from carrying out illegal activities under the guise of civil defence personnel.

He urged the members of the public to disregard recruitment rumours and advised those seeking clarification on volunteer matters to contact the command through official channels. (NAN)
