A Magistrate Court in Sagamu, Ogun State, has adjourned the trial of Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, the driver involved in the road crash that claimed the lives of associates of former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, to March 17, 2026.

The 46-year-old defendant appeared before the court on Wednesday, February 25, facing multiple charges related to the tragic accident that led to the deaths of two of Joshua’s close teammates and friends.

Second Adjournment for DPP Preparation

The Ogun Magistrate Court 1 presided over by Magistrate Olufumilayo Somefun granted the adjournment following a request by the prosecution.

R.D. Kadiri, representing the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP), told the court that additional time was required to assemble witnesses and finalise evidence, noting that the Director of Public Prosecutions recently took over the matter.

This marks the second adjournment to enable the DPP’s office to adequately prepare for the commencement of the full hearing.

Mobolaji faces multiple counts, including dangerous driving causing death; reckless and negligent driving; driving without due care and attention resulting in bodily harm and damage to property; and driving without a valid national driver’s licence.

The defendant was formally arraigned before the Sagamu Magistrate Court on January 2.

Details of the Fatal Crash

The incident occurred on December 29, 2025, along the busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, when a Lexus SUV collided with a stationary truck.

The crash claimed the lives of Joshua’s personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and his strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami. Joshua and the driver sustained minor injuries.

With the case now adjourned to March 17, the court is expected to commence substantive hearing once the prosecution concludes its preparations. (BusinessDay)
