The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has adopted a 60/40 leadership-sharing formula in Kano State between Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf-led decampees and the party’s existing structure.

The arrangement follows Governor Yusuf’s defection from the Kwankwasiyya faction of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the APC, a move that triggered a realignment of the party’s power structure in the state.

Confirming the development, the APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, said the new leadership formula was designed to promote inclusiveness, unity, and effective participation of all stakeholders in party affairs and governance.

According to him, 60 per cent of leadership positions will be allocated to Governor Yusuf and members of the Kwankwasiyya bloc who defected with him, while the existing APC structure will retain 40 per cent.

Professor Yilwatda disclosed this during his first official courtesy visit to Governor Yusuf at the Government House in Kano, where he stressed the need for cohesion and inclusiveness within the party.

The meeting was attended by former APC National Chairman and ex-Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, and other key party stakeholders.

Yilwatda expressed satisfaction with the large turnout of APC supporters at the event, describing it as a positive signal that would help strengthen support for President Bola Tinubu and improve the party’s prospects in future elections.

He also commended Yusuf Gawuna and Senator Barau Jibrin for setting aside personal ambitions and aligning with the governor’s vision to build a united APC in Kano.

The APC chairman further praised Dr. Ganduje for his leadership role and contributions to the growth and cohesion of the party in the state.

In his response, Governor Yusuf applauded the APC leadership for embracing inclusiveness and supporting peace and unity within the party.

He pledged to work closely with all party structures and stakeholders to ensure Kano State remains united, prosperous, and aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu.

Governor Yusuf said the turnout and show of solidarity at the meeting were clear indications that APC members in Kano were prepared to work together for the progress of the party and the welfare of the people. (The Guardian)
