The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has commenced the tracking and inspection of 64 constituency and executive projects valued at about N21.6 billion across Sokoto State.

The exercise, which falls under Phase 8 of the Commission’s Constituency and Executive Projects Tracking (CEPT) programme, is being carried out simultaneously in several states nationwide.

Speaking on Monday, the team leader, Aminu Bala, said the inspection covers projects in key sectors such as health, education, water supply, agriculture, special interventions and electrification.

Bala disclosed that preliminary checks have already uncovered irregularities in some projects located in Kalambaina and Gwuiwa communities of Wamakko Local Government Area, as well as Mabera and Mana in Sokoto South LGA.

He said, “the affected projects failed to meet contractual specifications and would require immediate corrective action.

“Consequently, contractors handling the identified projects have been directed to return to the site without delay and carry out the necessary remedial works.”

Among the projects cited are a science laboratory at the Senior Secondary School in Kalambaina and water supply schemes in Gwuiwa, Mabera and Mana communities.

Bala further explained that the 64 projects were awarded through 14 Federal Government agencies and are expected to be fully completed.

He added that the monitoring team comprises officials of the ICPC, members of the Nigeria Institute of Quantity Surveyors, civil society organisations and the media.

“Our mandate is to assess project performance, verify the value of work done, identify contractors, examine payment details and determine the current status of each project,” Bala said.

He noted that the overall objective of the exercise is to ensure accountability and evaluate the real impact of the projects on the beneficiary communities. (TRIBUNE)
